Australian cycling brand Attaquer, in association with Haven and international brand licensing agency Artestar, is incredibly excited to announce the release of their collaboration with the Keith Haring Studio.

The collection consists of ten pieces of cycling apparel and accessories. The collection will be sold online and in select retailer partners in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

With an instantly recognisable style and a penchant for social activism, Keith Haring was an iconic figure in the ’80s New York graffiti and art scene.

“We’ve always been big fans of Keith Haring and knew his work would translate well in to the cycling kits we are known for producing. Haring’s playful qualities relate strongly to the Attaquer aesthetic,” said Greg Hamer, co-founder of Attaquer, alongside Stevan Musulin.

Keith Haring was born in the rise of 1960s counterculture; he grew up loving the likes of Walt Disney and put pen to paper at a very young age. Haring left Pennsylvania to pursue a career as an artist.

By the 1980s NYC was ripe for a resurgence of pop art following the likes of Andy Warhol. Keith Haring’s mark on pop culture, pop art and the ability for art to counter radical social issues has been indelible. Many of his murals still stand today, and his art can be found in museum collections worldwide.

This is an excerpt from Keith Haring: Uncovered, a documentary about Haring's visit to Australia and the process behind his mural in Collingwood, Victoria.

“Art should be something that liberates your soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further.” – Keith Haring

Haring’s earliest works were chalk sketches on the NYC subway, a literal underground artist. Haring was creating art in public, for the public. A natural exhibitionist, the spectacle of being watched as he created was a vital part of his creative process. Like Warhol and Roy Lichenstein before him, Haring sought to bring the art world beyond upper class elitists.

“I am interested in making art to be experienced and explored by as many individuals as possible with as many different individual ideas about the given piece with no final meaning attached. The viewer creates the reality, the meaning, the conception of the piece.”
