Riding to the Destination

Bikepacking from London to Munich with Jeremy Presbury.

Theres something special about using a bike to get to a destination. Whether it’s riding from home to work, or from one town to the next, or even riding the long way from London to Munich. Whatever the journey, it’s always better when it’s done on a bike.

Callum has been one of my best mates for well over 10 years now. Our friendship was founded because of our common love for riding bikes, a love that hasn’t diminished over our friendship. So, when the idea of riding my bike from London to Munich came about, I knew that Cal would be an ideal mate to carry out the mission with.

Cal and I also share a love for photography. So, seeing as writing a multi-page blog post about our trip scares me more than growing up, I thought that sharing a collection of both our images would tell a nice tail of how our trip went.

Please enjoy this collection of images taken by Callum and I over the 5 week trip. If you’re interested in how each day of the trip went, check out my Strava for a write up on each day. Here’s one of those write ups. This is from one of my favorite days over the famous Stelvio:

...Today was the day that the Stelvio was conquered, and it certainly did not disappoint. We started climbing almost immediately from the campground and from then on, we had about 24km of nothing but buttery smooth roads and incredible scenery. I had been told by many that this climb had to be included in this trip, but I definitely didn’t know just how spectacular it would be. We were treated to the best weather so that certainly helped as well. Then once at the top, the remaining 90km consisted of an amazing descent down the “classic” side of the Stelvio. Then an incredible bike path that seemed to go on forever, through apple orchards and along the side of a raging river. Then the last 3km was the absolute pits as it included the steepest climb on my trip so far.. But it did make pulling up to the campsite even sweeter. Highlights - Stelvio climb and descent, beautiful bike path through apple orchards, a few modern buildings, power to weight increasing overnight thanks to some sketchy ricotta, 2 beers and 2 sprites from the campground for 5 euro, sandwich for dinner. Lowlights - That final climb...

My favorite pieces of Attaquer kit from the trip:

Cargo Bibs. The swiss army knife of cycling bibs. With the perfect combination of comfort, style, function and performance, these bibs are hard to top. Especially when paired with the Terra Tech Tee. The pockets are easily my favorite feature on these bibs. Especially when they’re loaded up with snacks before a big day on the tools.

All Day Anatomic Insulator Gilet. The perfect layer for those days that start off a little cold but eventually heat up. The insulated front keeps your chest protected from the cold air but then the ventilated back keeps you cool once the temperature increases. Plus, the reflective details on the vest keep you seen.
